Chris Soper

Loving Life at WC

Stories of Revolution

Chris Soper '10
Chris Soper '10 likes to keep busy. A member of the varsity swimming team and a brother of the Kappa Alpha Order, Chris is also the Vice-President of the Student Government Association.

Some students need time to adjust to college, but sophomore Chris Soper was at home from the moment he stepped on campus.

"It was close to home, and it really was very inviting when I came to visit. I just loved it here. It was small, and I've always gone to small schools. I like being the big fish in a small pond," he said jokingly.

Chris, an American Studies major, has made a splash on campus already as a member of the varsity swim team. "I knew I could swim well here—I love it. It takes up most of my free time and I just love the guys on the team," he said.

Chris is also a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, which he says is "a good escape" to keep his responsibilities with classes, swimming, and his duties as Vice-President of the Student Government Association from becoming too stressful.

He thrives on his busy schedule and hopes to use his SGA leadership role to enhance student life. He served as a peer mentor to incoming freshmen, and he continues to work closely with the Student Affairs office and student organizations to promote fun, safe campus activities like comedy nights and dances.

"I want to help people have the greatest experience they can possibly have at Washington College, so other students can have the same awesome experience I'm having," he said.

The re-launch of WacHaps, an e-mail service that alerts students to exciting activities on campus, is just one way Chris is trying to improve campus life.

"I'd like to get people involved. There's a lot for people to do," he said, citing the inaugural Cardboard Boat Regatta and regular Open Mic nights.

With more than two years left at WC, Chris is excited about the future of student life at the school.

"Washington College is great now, and it's going to be even more awesome," he predicts.
